Although, the Octopus Guard is a difficult position to get to and is often situational, it is a guard that you can add to your game that opens the door for a lot of attacks such as the Kimura, Guillotine, Rear Naked Choke and beyond. It also offers a lot of back taking possibilities.

For this reason, the Octopus Guard is a skill worth learning. Especially, given its back taking possibilities and as a counter.

Add another skill to your repertoire with the Octopus Guard!

In this series, Yeh breaks down the Octopus Guard and how to use it to chase and attack your opponent's back. First, it starts with the fundamentals of proper positioning and how to move within the system.

It also addresses how to deal with opponents who are heavily squared and generate reactions from them. In addition, to countering your opponent when they flop to the hip, or try to go for a cross-face.
